Physical therapy practices lose meaningful revenue to preventable claims denials - industry benchmarks put the ideal denial rate at 5-8%, yet many practices run 12-22% without knowing it. Most existing billing vendors are focused on claims processing, not root cause diagnosis.
Help PT clinics get authorized and paid for the care they provide.
We work with physical therapy practices to analyze denial trends, identify documentation and medical necessity issues, strengthen authorization and clinical documentation processes, and develop practical strategies to reduce preventable denials.
By combining clinical expertise, payer-side experience, and a data-driven approach to denial management, Larson PT Consulting helps practices improve their reimbursement, streamline processes, and build stronger relationships with insurance carriers.
For decades, we sat on the other side of the table — reviewing physical therapy claims for payers across the United States, deciding which ones met medical necessity and which ones didn't. We saw firsthand exactly why claims get denied: the missed documentation detail, the auth that lapsed. We also saw how often good, medically necessary care got denied simply because of how it was submitted, not because it wasn't warranted.
That experience left us with a question: what if practice owners had access to that same insider knowledge — not from the payer's side, but on their own team? That's why we started this practice. We're taking decades of payer-side utilization review experience and putting it to work for the people actually delivering care, so they get paid for the work they've already done.
We think like the payer, because we used to be the payer. That means we know which documentation gaps get flagged and which fixes make the biggest dollar difference — not generic billing advice, but insight built from a decades of reviewing PT claims from the inside. We don't take over your billing relationship; we strengthen what happens before the claim ever goes out the door, so fewer of them come back denied.
